Smart Alecs
Smart Alecs are everywhere. They are like cockroaches, they can survive in the most extreme conditions, they can't be eliminated and they get on my nerve! I have always known that Smart Alecs are everywhere, but I realised that the concentration of them in language classes is exceptionally high! I am taking Japanese 1 and some of my tutorial classes have really irritating Smart Alecs. When the class recites something together, they will say it out on top of their lungs, afraid that they TAs might be deaf and cannot hear their fluent Japanese. But the funny thing is that when it comes to their turn to converse with the TA one on one, they start to stutter and then look around. Oh man so where did their confidence go? There is this guy from my TC, when I was asked to ask my partner in Japanese on from what time to what time she studied Japanese the previous night and when my poor partner start to stutter due to lack of confidence, the guy besides me decided to answer aloud (but no one asked him!) that he studies Japanese everyday! You can imagine how impressed the TA was to hear that! And then the teacher asked me from what time to what time I studied Japanese the previous night, I said I did not study Japanese at all the previous night simply because that answer was easier and I was more confident of saying it without making any mistake and not because I really did not study Japanese the previous night. And man can you imagine how smug the guy besides me was when he heard me saying that. The TA even complimented him on that! Oh well he is just one of the many cases of people trying to act smart in my language classes. I would have to say that the language tutorials are really damn fun, but it would have been much more better without these guys around... Cockroaches are just disgusting...
